Dec 1, 2014-Nepal has got its first reinsurance company, which is expected to help curb massive fund outflows for reinsurance purposes. The company, which has a paid-up capital of Rs 2.1 billion and authorised capital of Rs 5 billion, will be formally launched in a few days. “An office has already been set up and we will formally inaugurate it soon,” said Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat at a press meet at the Finance Ministry on Sunday. The office is based at Battisputali, Old Baneshwor, in Kathmandu. The reinsurance company will succeed the Insurance Pool. The Pool was set up in 2003 with a 50 percent equity participation of the government and the rest of insurance companies, mainly non-life companies, to cover damages caused by terrorism. The pool was formally converted.............

Nepal Reinsurance Company to help reduce outflow of fund

At a time when a large sum of money is flowing abroad from insurance companies through the premium for reinsurance, the government has opened a new company to make such service available within the country. After a four-year long preparation, ´Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd´ (NRCL) finally got an operating license from the insurance market regulator Beema Samiti (BS) on Sunday. Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat is scheduled to inaugurate the company amid a ceremony on Monday. Reinsurance is insurance purchased by insurers from other insurers to limit the total loss an insurer would suffer in case of a disaster. Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited has successfully conducted its 1st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Ashad 14, 2073. The AGM increased authorized capital of the company from Rs 5 arba to Rs 15 arba. Also the issued capital has also been increased to Rs 15 arba from Rs 3 arba. Mahesh Kumar Guragain, Chairman of the company said, ‘Nepal Reinsurance Company has initiated process to issue Initial Public Offering for public investment in the company. Also the company has furthered to provide service for capacity increment, development of technology required for credibility of the company in the international insurance market and rating of the company.’ Issuing a press statement yesterday it stated that the company has a national level reinsurance provision.
